Vacation no. 1: Mauritius

Filed under: Living my life around the world — ingridgiurgea @ 2:03 pm

It’s been such a long time… Well, I just realised that when I looked at my last post because in my mind is still “It was such a fun time…”.

To make a short recap: I’ve been in 2 vacations, 2 weeks in Mauritius and 13 days in Palolem, Goa.

In Mauritius I’ve been with my husband for a romantic vacation. It’s a very beautiful place with white sand beaches and clear water, mountains, amazing clouds, nice people, good food and I could go on and on about it… I even had the occasion to meet the most scary spider by the size of my palm, black in colour and mostly very ugly. This spider thought that our room is very comfortable and didn’t want to let go easily. We tried everything: perfume, acetone, mosquito spray etc. It seemed full of energy even when my husband lost his patience and start beating it in the head with the broom. We didn’t manage to kill it even so, we just managed to chase it away. Well, when I say “we”, it’s more about my husband because all I did was to hold my head and curse while jumping around in the room. But I was strong enough to watch the whole thing going on :)) .

The plan was to rent a cheap room and for the rest of the budget to rent a car so we could have freedom to move around. It’s not a huge island, but you need good transportation to reach from one end to the other. So, having all these done, we decided to take a map and divide it into the most convenient way that could cover everything. We didn’t know to much about the place and we wanted to see all. The first 5 days we spent on the beach. We just got into the car and we stopped everywhere the map was showing a beach. It was a little hard to get used with the car at the beginning because they drive on the right hand. I don’t drive, but I could see that my husband was pretty shy when he  put his foot in that car first – they also have very narrow streets.  After checking around and taking a deep into the sea on every beach, we start to focus on the inner side of the island, the mountains. They have a beautiful landscape and you can  have pretty much every activity you’re looking for: hiking, rafting, hunting, cycling, tours to the death volcanoes, geyser etc. I was very impressed to see how hard they’re trying to preserve the nature. It’s not a reach country, but the people are working very hard to keep it at high standards. They get most of their money from tourism and sugar-cane industry, plus other secondary things they do to keep life going on.

Coming down to the seaside again we did activities like undersea walk (very nice to feed the fishes), catamaran trips to the islands in the vicinity. The catamaran trip is a full day activity with barbecue, snorkeling, lots of beers…. they offer everything you need and it’s at the price of a lunch only. You have the occasion to see lots of things like flying fishes, dolphins, even whales if you’re lucky enough. Whales come there most of the time for the cold season, but occasionally they can be seen for the high season too (it’s a very emotional moment).

I don’t know if you realised that our vacation is almost finished, only few days left. Hard to see that your days of relaxation are flying away like that. So, we just focused on our favourite places (most of them on different beaches) and we just went back there to spend quiet time together.

Just to let you know, Mauritius is a dream place to relax. If you’re looking for parties and clubbing there are only few safe places where you can do that, but it’s really fun. If you look for tradition, they organise festivities, so you just have to take a look around and you’ll find them. The main happenings are on the beach and in the mountain.

It’s not a cheap country, the only money you can spare are the money for accommodation. There are lots of 4 and 5 stars resorts and, the most “painful” thing, they offer all inclusive. It looks so nice in the brochure when you’re planning your vacation and it seems to be such a good business, but once you’re there, you’ll find yourself in the situation of having to run away from the beach just to catch your lunch or dinner at the hotel because you already paid for it. On the other hand, if you pick up a room in a villa it can be dozen times cheaper than the resorts and, let’s admit it, it’s fun to cook your own snack.  Most of the main meals will anyway be taken somewhere on the beach.

It was a very nice, romantic (even if  romance doesn’t fit me very well, I still like it) and educative vacation. I say educative because, to be honest, I had no idea that the pineapple fruit is growing in a bush and not a in a tree… :) .

Palolem, Goa story to come in the near future. I have to put my thoughts together – my brain was shaken pretty bad there – and now I have to go out anyway.

2009 for everybody

Filed under: Living my life around the world — ingridgiurgea @ 2:52 am
I wish You a Happy New Year!
I wish you’ll go singing everywhere: when walking on the street, in the shower, preparing the breakfast for the loved one…
I wish you’ll go smiling everywhen playing with a child, on the way to work, going to/out of the Bank…
I wish you’ll not think “time is money” anymore, but just another occasion to enjoy the moment…
I wish the only sadness is in your worst dreams and then you wake up in the morning and say to yourself: “THAT WAS IN THE PAST”…
Santa's belly

Ho-Ho-Ho!!!!!…

call from my friend

Filed under: Living my life around the world — ingridgiurgea @ 1:02 am

Around 15:00 a clock I got a call. My friend Ana came with an idea: “Let’s go out on the roller blades and have a coffee on the Cornish”. “Why not?!” I said as open to new ideas as I always am. Only I didn’t know the surprise to come.

We went out very happy to feel the wind on our face. After like about 8 km, we took a break at the Coffee House where we met my husband ( my poor babe, how much patience is he still able to show?!…). We found him there trying to avoid looking at a German breakfast that was already getting cold. We finished our staff and, since it was such a nice weather, we decided to go farther. As we were going so happy towards the end of the Cornish I saw Ana jumping in the air and moving her arms in all possible directions (as she was trying to fly). In the end she landed on her belly and elbows. She didn’t seem to be hurt, so two nice guys brought her up. I was shocked and I couldn’t react on the spot. As she was fine, she start screaming at some workers trying to find out “Why is this wood here where people are walking…bla bla bla…bla bla bla?”. They seemed to be even more shocked than I was and they gave her an explanation, but I wasn’t able to hear it - I think you can imagine why. We decided that she’s fine so we went farther. After only few meters I saw one of her rollers going on its own direction, so we were just staring at the solely roller trying to find its own way. Than we realised that we actually have the professionals there and they are capable to fix it, so we start running after the roller. In the end we reached it. The guys tried to fix it but they couldn’t do it properly, so Ana just left the roller blades there and, since the Mall was near, we went to buy another pair for her. To celebrate the new roller blades we went to have another coffee (hot chocolate) near by, on a very nice terrace. We did the order and then Ana went to the washroom. Seeing her coming back, I was so happy that I can  finally speak about the adventure she just had, but I looked at her a second time and I saw that she was doing some kind of new movements – one leg was going on a side and the other one was going exactly the opposite way, unable to bring them together she ended up on her belly once again.

She actually has a little problem with the break, she never tried it for the old roller blades and these ones are the speedy kind. Going out of the parking at the Mall (not in the car but on the roller blades) she couldn’t stop, she hit a car and than a second one ending up in a guy’s arms while she was shouting: “Hold me!…..” So the guy hold her…

I am so thankful to my roller blades since they threw me down for only one time and I hope I will never have the flying - landing king of experience with them.

I have to go sleep now, I’ll be flying later today…

the first snow

Filed under: Living my life around the world — ingridgiurgea @ 1:06 am

Guess what?! I just came back from Paris (I didn’t remove my uniform yet…) and I’m so happy!… I got the first snow there. Do you remember that feeling, when you wake up in the morning and you see that everything is white and you don’t really know which way to go because you’re just so happy?!… Well, it wasn’t exactly white, but I still got that feeling and I’m still so happy. And now, on top of all of my excitement, I’m really waiting for Santa Claus…

Yey, I’ll go change now.  :)

…and I had a cold

Filed under: Living my life around the world — ingridgiurgea @ 10:28 pm

Being sick is not easy. For the last two weeks I’ve been having a cold, I used to feel like having an iron inside my head. Luckily I had a sickness-buddy next to me, my friend Daniela who was feeling the same way – (I gave it to her, she doesn’t know I plan to do the same for my next cold) - and she’s still suffering a bit. I hope her Beijing flight will not fly away from her roster as fast as her nose is running right now. Sorry dear, if that happens I will make another cake for you (with less sugar than the last one…).  Fortunately, for the people leaving next to her, she’s having now an iron in her hand, thing that you’ll not see me doing for the next couple of weeks (hehe, still recovering). And, of course, if she’s not forgetting about that iron for a while and go to bed, her Beijing flight may go away to another much more healthy person.

I had a small vacation (sick-leave) with running nose and congested head.  To be honest, I’m sorry I didn’t make some phone calls since my voice was so changed, but is good to keep it in my mind for the next time. I’m still having a very noisy cough which gives me the opportunity to victimize myself – as you can see clearly here…

I’m happy they finally gave me a flight for the days to come and I will be away just before my vacation, thing that will make the days pass a little bit faster. I hardly wait for my vacation. After a week and a half I’ll be spending a romantic evening on a white sand beach, trying to hide away from my husband who will, most likely, be running behind me holding a crab or another biting animal. Well, it’s good I used to play so much of volleyball, still in good shape :) .

My last week

Filed under: Living my life around the world — ingridgiurgea @ 2:35 am

During last week I’ve been to London and to Jakarta with a 24 hours stop for each of them. It’s so cold in London!!! (6 degrees C). I didn’t feel winter for such a long time… Of course I got a cold and now I’m suffering a bit. On the other hand Jakarta is hot and humid. It’s very hard to tell stories about a place because it’s so much deviated from reality, you can’t feel everything from a story, like the humidity and the specific smell, the ride on the famous Tuk-tuk, or if you can’t see how humble the people are… People are so nice, but incidents may still happen.

I wish my stay there was a few days longer. I think this will be the next destination for my leave. The only concern is that I will probably come back 20 kg more than I am now because I love Asian food. In my opinion the more legs the animal inside has the better the food is, and it works very well so far. I even start cooking Asian food , most of it is Thai or this is how I call it (Tom Yam Soup, Pad Thai Noodles etc). My husband is very happy with my cooking, or he has some other reasons to be so positive about it: he’s just nice and loves me very much or he’s very hungry and happy when I give him something to eat, don’t know for sure yet. So, if you have any Asian recipes they will be more than welcome for me and maybe a disaster for my husband, because it happens that I’m very proud with my cooking and I force everybody to have some. I even call my neighbors to taste it or just to enjoy the moment, for there are not so many moments like this in somebody’s life. Eh, they should be so happy they have me… (yes, modesty is a virtue).

One of the few Jakarta’s I had was a very tragic one because I almost got beaten up, but I don’t want to create a bad opinion about Indonesia just because I had an incident, so I’ll just stop here. It’s just that a little bit of care is never wrong and it’s better to go out in small groups…

The truth is that Indonesia is a very beautiful country with many beaches and islands with amazing resorts. It’s a very good place for holiday and everything is so affordable that you will really feel like crying when the time to go back home and start the work again comes. How could I explain the feeling? Maybe like leaving the Paradise to come back into the real world?!… I don’t know.   However, just to continue my story, at the beginning it’s a little hard to get used with the currency (everything you have to pay will be millions) but as soon as you make your calculations you’ll discover that it’s actually very cheap. My suggestion is to organize yourself your own vacation and, before you go there, check more accommodations on the Internet because you can find something so much more convenient than a 5 stars hotel and if you ask before for a discount, since they are such nice people, they really give it. The good thing is that they give visa on arrival for over 60 countries.

Indonesia is definitely in my Top 10 destinations for vacation.

To my husband…

Filed under: Living my life around the world — ingridgiurgea @ 7:43 pm

Well, today I’ve been to the new Water Park here, in Dubai. It was so much more then I was expecting. Usually you go down the flow facing the sky, of course, only today I found myself facing the other way around and I realised that if I don’t turn quickly I may get nasty injuries (speed close to 80 km/hour). While I was seeing a short recap of my life, I turned into the decided position hoping to save what was left of it. When I was feeling more hero then I ever did, not even realising I reached the end of the tunnel, I saw a head with a happy face showing big white teeth and a huge yellow hat. Being ready to give my life into his hands, out of all of my concerns at that time, he asked my husband “Are you OK, sir?”. “Where are the manners hidden these days?!”, I asked myself. Now though, if I’d have only one wish that would be 100% to become true, that is to rewind time back, put a huge yellow hat on my head and be the guy that saw my husband coming out of the tunnel today, for I’m sure he was doing something that he will never admit he did…

Only few thoughts

Filed under: Living my life around the world — ingridgiurgea @ 2:01 pm

I decided to write because lately it seems so hard to keep in touch with old friends (even if the technology it’s developing so fast). It’s rather sad and I know it depends very much about each individual, but in the same time we seem to be so busy (or to make ourselves so busy) that we find we don’t even care anymore about our friends and gatherings as they used to be before.

I live in UAE with my husband and I spend most of my time traveling around the world, as this is my job as well: Flight Attendant. Sometimes, when he’s able to get days off from work, he’s traveling with me, which is more than two people could wish for. I start flying 5 years ago and I’m very proud to say that I don’t realise very well when the time went by. Of course being everyday somewhere else makes time flying even faster than for a person with a normal job (as we say: when you’re flying time is flying away)…
